The subject of the portrait by Magnum Photographer Steve McCurry known as The Afghan Girl, Sharbat Gula, has relocated to Italy as part of an evacuation programme for Afghan citizens. Photographed as a 12 year old in a Pakistan refugee camp, the  image featured on the cover of National Geographic in 1984 and has been called the  most recognised photograph in the magazine’s history.
